Markenhof is one of the specialized nursing homes in the Netherlands for people with Korsakov's syndrome. It is an open institution with the aim of allowing residents to keep control over their own lives for as long as possible. This is done by offering the individual as much space as possible and being there when necessary. Living in Markenhof means living in small groups with attention to conviviality and respect for privacy. But also: just being able to walk into the garden to get some fresh air. Because every resident is first and foremost a person who - just like everyone else - wants to be themselves. The reason for this film is the Korsakov study, which provides insight into the functioning, quality of life, care needs and the problems of the incapacity of people with Korsakov's syndrome who live in a nursing home.
