I'll take you on a tour through the largest contiguous fruit growing area in Europe, the so-called Altes Land Fruit Route. The Altes Land is part of the Elbe marsh south of the Elbe in Hamburg and Lower Saxony and is characterized by its numerous fruit plantations and orchards, beautiful half-timbered houses, numerous old churches, often with important and valuable organs (Arp Schnittger). I'll spend the night on the Elbe island of Lühesand, which offers solitude and silence at least during the week and outside of Hamburg's school holidays.
