Digital Civita Night Monday 27 February at 20:00–22:00. On the night of 28 February 1943, Norwegian saboteurs carried out the heavy water operation to prevent Nazi Germany from developing nuclear weapons. It is the largest act of sabotage that has taken place on Norwegian soil. On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Vemork action, Civita invites you to a military history evening. Asgeir Ueland, author of the book Tungtvannsaksjonen and Olav Njølstad, professor and author of the book Professor Tronstad's war, will, in conversation with Eirik Løkke, present the central players and explain how the heavy water campaign was planned and carried out. In addition, the presenters will discuss whether the explosion of Norsk Hydro's factory contributed to stopping Hitler's atomic bomb project. In conclusion, Frode Arnfinn Kristoffersen, brigadier and deputy commander/chief of staff for the Norwegian Armed Forces' special forces, will share his thoughts on the military aspects of the operation, and any lessons learned for today's special forces. The meeting will take place without an audience and will be broadcast on this website, via YouTube, and on our Facebook page.
