They stayed overnight, and news of their presence reached the People's Army unit commanded by Mieczysław Moczar stationed nearby. The partisans, led by Mikołaj Meluch, aka "Kolka" - a resident of the village - attacked the Turkmen. This incident provoked a brutal retaliation by the Germans, who began to pacify the village the next day. For years, communist propaganda has been falsifying this tragedy. Did the residents really ask the partisans for help? Did Moczar and Meluch not realize that their action would cause repression against civilians? Or maybe they deliberately exposed the village to destruction? Thanks to the involvement of the long-time mayor of Ostrów Lubelski, Mr. Józef Gruszczyk, and Mrs. Małgorzata Kapitan, we managed to reach the last living witnesses of this crime – Mr. Zbysław Abramik and Dr. Kazimierz Wolski. We invite you to watch a moving film about the pacification of the village of Jamy in the Lublin region. Bibliography: 1. Kazimierz M.
