In this video about hiking in Asturias we visit one of the most popular routes in the region: the Xanas Gorge Route. The first part of the route takes us through the gorge, with a landscape that reminds me a lot of the Cares route. In fact, some people describe this route as a “mini Cares”. The second part of the route goes through a wooded area through which a river runs and which personally reminds me of paths that I have had the opportunity to walk in the Asturian municipality of Taramundi. As for the route itself, it is linear, it begins in the Xanas car park (Santo Adriano) and ends in the town of Pedroveya (Quirós). The route covers a distance of about 4 km (one way) and has a gradient of about 400 m. This is a hiking route that I recommend to everyone, including those of you who are just starting out in hiking: it will leave you with a very good taste in your mouth and make you want to continue hiking. I would like to add a couple of things that I think are important for you to know: This route is not recommended for those of you who suffer from vertigo. This applies especially to the first two km of the route, which are those that pass through the gorge. The drop that can be seen from some points, together with the fact that the path can be narrow, can shock some people. The path can be done with children because the distance is relatively short and has very few difficulties. However, it is necessary for children to hold hands when passing through the gorge area to avoid undesirable accidents. As a final comment, I would like to say that this route is very popular and it is recommended to start it early so as not to have problems when parking the car.
