SV Waldhof Mannheim is back in the race for promotion after a furious victory against Freiburg II. The winning goal came in the last minute of stoppage time. In the fourth minute of stoppage time, Mannheim turned the game around in the Carl Benz Stadium. Bentley Baxter Bahn scored to make it 2-1 (0-1) after Julian Stark (28th minute) had put Freiburg in the lead and Fridolin Wagner (85th) had equalized. After three defeats in a row, Mannheim can once again look toward the promotion places. Waldhof (51 points) is eight points behind second-placed Wiesbaden and third-placed Freiburg, and five points behind fourth-placed Dynamo Dresden. Waldhof coach Christian Neidhart brought three new players into the game compared to the 1-2 defeat in Saarbrücken: Marcel Seegert, Adrien Lebeau and Daniel Keita-Ruel started for Malte Karbstein (injured), Berkan Taz and Dominik Martinovic. SC coach Thomas Stamm, who recently extended his contract in Freiburg, even made four changes after the 0:2 defeat against Essen: Philipp Treu, Kenneth Schmidt, Kimberly Ezekwem and Merlin Röhl came on for Philip Fahrner, Robert Wagner (both absent), Sandrino Braun-Schumacher and Jordy Makengo. Second-placed Freiburg were initially the more active team and posed more of a threat. SV Waldhof, who had recently lost three times in a row, could not think of anything in the first half to cause problems for the guests. After around 20 minutes, Marcel Seegert had to be treated on his right thigh. The Mannheim captain was able to continue playing with a bandage, but was unable to prevent the guests from taking the lead. After a cross from Lars Kehl from the right, Julian Stark scored in the bottom left corner (28'). Philipp Treu had initiated this scene. Freiburg pushed for a second goal: just a few minutes later, Freiburg striker Vincent Vermeij was alone in front of the goal, but goalkeeper Jan-Christoph Bartels wasted the chance. Vermeij had previously intercepted a back pass from Waldhöfer, which had created this great opportunity. Before the break, Merlin Röhl also missed a great opportunity after volleying a cross from Kimberly Ezekwem past the goal. Waldhof coach Neidhart brought on three new players at the start of the second half: Marc Schnatterer, Dominik Martinovic and Pascal Sohm, and with them more momentum into the game. After a good hour, Mannheim had their first chance when Julian Riedel narrowly missed a corner from the right. The hosts grew stronger - and created the next big opportunity: Martinovic ran alone towards Freiburg goalkeeper Noah Atubolu after a pass, but was thwarted by his reflex. Atubolu also parried a low shot from the striker ten minutes before the end. The guests from Breisgau concentrated on defence and isolated counterattacks. The Mannheim team's efforts were rewarded when Fridolin Wagner curled the ball into the top right corner (85th minute). Martinovic had previously extended a cross. Almost in return, Freiburg had the opportunity to take the lead again through Vermeij, but the striker was unable to control the ball and then narrowly missed the goal. When everyone was expecting a draw, Bahn got the ball with the tip of his foot after a corner and decided the game. #3.liga #waldhofmannheim #scfreiburg2 ++ 3. Liga +++ Pure football.
