The forest is doing worse and worse, and this is clearly visible here in Hesse. It is suffering from climate change, bark beetles and harmful fungi, and has now gone from being a climate saviour to a climate pest itself, because it is releasing more carbon dioxide than it is absorbing. This is the official diagnosis of the current forest damage report, which some people are calling the forest's bankruptcy report. And there is more at stake than many people know. This is reason enough for the Green MEP Martin Häusling to invite people to the third forest conference in the spa in Bad Zwesten and to look for solutions that will make the forest healthy again and benefit this habitat, its animals and plants, and thus also us humans. Almost 200 scientists, practitioners, forest owners and guests from all over Germany answered his call and discussed on Friday in the packed spa what can and must be done to save the forest.
