※ This video is part of <World Theme Travel - South Africa Exploration 1-4 by Camper Van> broadcast in May 2024. A great exploration of South Africa with a hand-made companion camper van! The journey begins in Cape Town, South Africa's representative resort city. The best part of a camper van trip is the leisurely rest and enjoyment in a place that touches your heart! We enjoy a cup of coffee leisurely in front of the Three Sisters, a spectacular view, while traveling on National Highway 1 (The N1), South Africa's first highway. In Kimberley, the city of diamonds, we find the Big Hole, the largest hole dug by human hands. We are deeply moved by the fact that behind the beauty of diamonds lies a history of desire and exploitation. On the way across the border into Botswana, a living wild landscape unfolds on the road. Ostriches, zebras, and elephants - we are excited about the 'highway safari' experience that can only be found in Africa. But there is more to a campervan trip than just sweets. What is the story of stopping in the middle of the highway? After many twists and turns, we arrived in Nata, Botswana. We console ourselves from a hard day with a barbecue party at the campsite here and celebrate our arrival in a new country. Then, we head to the Nata Bird Sanctuary in Botswana to find the flamingos we have been looking forward to seeing. However, the scenery before our eyes is desolate. It is a shelter for wild animals endangered by the climate crisis. I sincerely hope that the flamingos will dance again here. Lake Kariba, the world's largest artificial lake, was created by the construction of the Kariba Dam in the middle reaches of the Zambezi River. This lake, located on the border of Zimbabwe and Zambia, is called a 'sea' in the landlocked countries of Zimbabwe and Zambia. In Lake Kariba, the Tonga (Batonga) who have lived in the Zambezi River for a long time are living while preserving their language and culture. The first village we visited was Materere. Upon arriving at the village, we experienced the traditional Tongan fishing method with the villagers who happened to be going out to fish. The village, which returned after a successful fishing trip, was busy preparing a feast. After feasting on goat meat dishes, traditional food, and Sadza, the village became quiet for a while. While exploring the village, we happened to see a house-building site. It was said that a single woman in the village was building her own house for her first independence. After cheering her on and helping her build the house, we took pictures with the villagers and shared memories. Next, we headed to Binga, another Tongan village on Lake Kariba. First, we received a blessing prayer in a somewhat unfamiliar and unique way at this place where there are many traditional healers. Next, we board a fishing boat to catch silver Kapenta, a specialty of Binga, on the lakeshore. Kapenta fishing, which begins at night, is a arduous task of lowering and raising nets for 12 hours without rest. What does Lake Kariba mean to the Binga fishermen who catch Kapenta all night long? We meet the simple life of the Tongan people who live without greed, embraced by the generous bosom of Lake Kariba, which is like the sea. We head to Victoria Falls, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the world's three largest waterfalls. Victoria Falls, which the locals call "Mosi Oya Tunya," meaning "smoke that thunders," straddles Zambia and Zimbabwe. First, we arrive at Livingstone, Zambia, the gateway to the Victoria Falls tour. We visit the largest traditional market here, Maramba Market, and see the lively daily lives of the locals. What particularly catches the eye are the lumps of dirt on display at the stalls. It is an 'edible dirt' that is said to be good for pregnant women's health. What does it taste like? To fully see Victoria Falls, cross the border to Zimbabwe. You can walk along the trail there and admire the magnificent Victoria Falls that changes every moment. The thunderous sound of the falls and the magnificent scenery will overwhelm your nerves, and the valleys that are difficult to estimate in depth and width and the endless feast of waterfalls continue for a long time. However, to feel Victoria Falls with your whole body, thrilling activities are a must! Bungee jumping 111m down from the Victoria Falls Bridge and 'Angel's Pool' where you can enjoy adventure at the edge of the waterfall cliff add to the enjoyment of your trip to Victoria Falls. The excitement of meeting Victoria Falls ends with watching the African night sky filled with stars at the Hwange National Park Campground. After being immersed in the great nature of Africa, this time we will delve into the lives of local Africans. We will visit the traditional village of the Tokaleya tribe that used to worship Victoria Falls and experience the changing lives of traditional African tribes. Full
