※ This video is part of <Korean Travelogue - That Winter is So Hard Part 3: The Long Way Back> broadcast on January 1, 2019. 25 years ago, Yoo Seung-il, who had been wandering around the country, came to Gajaegol (可在洞), a remote area in Yeongwol surrounded by mountains and rivers. Gajaegol is a name that means 'a place where you can survive'. Seung-il, who dreamed of living like an uninhabited island, met his wife who had the same dream and renovated an old country house that was over 60 years old into a house with an annex and a studio at minimal cost. In the winter, the couple gathers wood from the mountains to fill the stove, which is less than half the size of other houses' stoves. This is the result of years of research and using insulation to increase the heat efficiency of the stove. Even when the bitter cold hits, their home is warm like the spring sun.
