+++++ Description Malmbanan Part 2/2 +++++ We are in the northernmost city in Sweden. Iron ore has been mined in Kiruna since around 1880. The ore railway, known in Sweden as Malmbanan, was completed in 1903. The iron ore is mined in Sweden but 80% is shipped from the Norwegian port of Narvik. As Narvik is reached by the Atlantic and thus by the Gulf Stream, it is ice-free even in the depths of winter. Today we want to accompany the heavy ore trains from Kiruna to Narvik.
