In our information age, it has become increasingly difficult to distinguish truth from lies. In recent years, we have witnessed how fake news has fueled polarization, influenced elections, and even sparked violence. Misinformation surrounds us from all sides and aims to manipulate our thinking and behavior. But why do we fall prey to misinformation? Social media, algorithms that adjust our information flow, and the desire to belong to a group all contribute to the spread of misinformation. In this episode, we will delve into the world of misinformation - its creation, distribution and impact on our society. Why do we so easily believe unverified information? Psychologists suggest that there are several reasons for this, such as confirmation bias (we like information that confirms our existing beliefs), cognitive dissonance (we try to avoid information that threatens our self-esteem) and simply laziness to think critically. Investigative journalist Inga SpriŘe will help us understand how these processes take place and how we can protect ourselves from manipulation.
