CİLO MOUNTAINS AND GLACIERS Mount Cilo, the second highest mountain in Turkey, is located within the borders of Hakkari. Located at the southeastern end of our country, Mount Cilo is the easternmost extension of the Southeastern Taurus Mountains. The summit of this tectonic mountain is covered with snow and ice that does not melt throughout all four seasons. The most important high peaks are Uludoruk at 4135 meters, Suppa Durek at 4060 meters, Köşedireği Mountain at 3700 meters, Kisara Mountain at 3500 meters, Maunseli Sivrisi at 3850 meters and Gelyona Hill at 3650 meters. In 1931, Ludwig Sperlich and his friend Ludwig Krenek made the first ascent to the summit of Uludoruk. HEAVEN HELL VALLEY Approximately 45 kilometers from Hakkari city center, passing through Kırıkdağ (Geliyê Dîzê) village, there is the Heaven Hell Valley among the Cilo Mountains. While there are colorful flowers in the lush green valley called “Heaven”, there are tens of thousands of years of glaciers and sat glacial lakes in the part called “Hell”. These glaciers on Cilo Mountain offer a beauty that is worth seeing and captivating with its untouched nature.
