Hello! Let us describe our first stage of the Portuguese Way to Santiago de Compostela, starting on 06/05/23, leaving Valença, Portugal to O Porriño, Spain, on this day we covered approximately 24 km. Valença is a beautiful city, located in the north of Portugal, on the border with Spain. The main tourist attraction is the medieval fortress. As we already knew the fortress, we went straight to cross the border and observe the beautiful landscape and the Minho River. After crossing the International Bridge, we arrived in Tui, a Spanish municipality, in Galicia, an important historical heritage, including the imposing Cathedral of Santa Maria, a true masterpiece of religious architecture. Continuing our journey, we followed the Portuguese Way, crossing beautiful rural landscapes, full of green hills and small picturesque villages. During the month of May, nature was lush, with flowering fields and leafy trees, providing a serene and peaceful atmosphere for the walk. After a few kilometers, we arrived in O Porriño, a cozy Spanish municipality. We were able to enjoy the local hospitality, and since we were tired, we bought some things at the market and went to the hostel to eat and rest. This first stage of the Portuguese Way to Santiago de Compostela served to ease our anxiety, observe the small villages and nature, in addition to welcoming and wishing “Buen Camino” to the other pilgrims, some of whom had been on the path for a few days, others who were just starting their journey like us. Until the second day of the walk and “Buen Camino”.
