If you've ever had a dog, you'll know that they often do pretty weird things... Some like to flirt with you, or lie at your feet all the time, while others like to channel their inner goat. And that's not all. So stay tuned for 15 weird dog behaviors and the explanation behind them! 15) Wanting to bite their own tail Almost every dog that has ever existed has tried to bite or has bitten their own tail. Some do it more often than others, but more or less all do it! Even though it looks a bit awkward and weird, there is some meaning behind it. The main reason is simply that they are bored! When dogs are bored, they try to fill that time with something productive, and playing is productive for them! If they want to play and the closest thing to them happens to be their own tail, then that's what they will do! However, if your dog does this constantly without stopping, they may have something wrong with their butt and need to go to the vet instead! 14) Make lots of circles before sitting down Have you ever noticed your dog making lots of little circles before sitting down or sleeping in his bed? Most people think they're just trying to get as comfortable as possible to get a proper night's sleep, but that's not the case. There's a much deeper meaning behind it! Dogs know they're vulnerable when they sleep, and they can't just lie out in the open where they're also vulnerable... that's why they like to prepare their bed before sitting in it, and then they sit in exactly the position best suited to spring into action when an intruder comes in! They're cute and smart! 13) Eating grass If you've ever walked up to your dog and seen him show his inner goat and eat a pile of grass... don't worry, he's not having an identity crisis, he might just have an upset stomach! Grass contains fiber, and if your dog has stomach problems, they will try to solve the problem themselves by chewing some grass and increasing their fiber intake! This way, they get a crunchy snack and their stomach feels better too! 12) Eating Poop This one is just plain disturbing... But you'd be surprised how many dogs actually eat their poop! Dogs tend to do this when they're stressed or expecting a reaction from their owners. In any case, you have to look closely to find out what the cause is, because although it's normal for dogs to do this, it's almost always due to stress! In general, however, it's considered safe for them to eat their own poop... But if they eat the poop of other animals or dogs, there's a risk of germs, parasites, and disease! So, if this happens, you need to put a stop to it! 11) Winking If you walk into the room and your dog winks at you, know that he's not flirting with you or trying to be cute... he might just have something in his eye! Unlike us, they don't have fingers or know how to properly use a mirror to get something out of their eye... so they do the only thing they know will work... they come to their owner! The safest way to clean their eyes is with dog-safe eye drops. They quickly flush out the dog's eyes and make them as good as new! 10) Sniffing Butts If you're a new dog owner, you'll notice that one of the strangest things your dog does is sniffing the butts of other dogs and animals in general. This is because butts are the equivalent of faces for dogs. Just as all humans have a unique face, all dogs have a unique smell, and that smell is concentrated on the butt! This is why when two dogs see each other, they immediately pounce on the butt to check their identities, just in case they've met before... if not, they move on to a formal greeting instead!
