I believe that memory is an ancestral heritage, of all of us.” In the fourteenth film of the Ancestral Memories series, Ailton Krenak makes a series of provocations about our relationship with memory, weaving together points such as the role of museums in society, the notion of individual and the possibility of each person cultivating memory in their own body, against the existential void that is so common in our time. Ailton Krenak is a thinker, environmentalist and one of the main voices of indigenous knowledge. He created, together with Dantes Editora, Selvagem – a series of studies on life. He lives in the Krenak village, on the banks of the Doce River, in Minas Gerais. He is the author of the books Ideas to Postpone the End of the World (Companhia das Letras, 2019), Tomorrow Is Not for Sale (Companhia das Letras, 2020), Life Is Not Useful (Companhia das Letras, 2020) and Ancestral Future (Companhia das Letras, 2022). The vigil of orality took place around a bonfire in the Quinta da Boa Vista park, near the National Museum of Rio de Janeiro, from dusk on April 15 to dawn on the 16th. A night in which memories and narratives of origin, stories, music and poetry were challenged with the participation of 27 indigenous narrators, griots, quilombolas, academics, literary and musical, in addition to more than 200 participants - and also the elements, the forests and the living presence of the Museum. *************************************************************** We would like to thank everyone who participated in the vigil, those who connected remotely and now those who follow the online Ancestral Memories cycle. We would like to thank our supporters, suppliers and the entire team that supported the vigil. We would like to thank Constelação Selvagem and its partners who have allowed us to continue steadfastly throughout the year. And finally, we would like to thank the entire Selvagem team, the film crew, the guests and musicians, and especially the Comunidade Selvagem for their collaboration in the production of the meeting, and now with the publication and dissemination of the films that make up the Ancestral Memories cycle. *************************************************************** CREDITS ANCESTRAL MEMORIES Ailton Krenak - guidance Anna Dantes - direction Madeleine Deschamps - production Elisa Mendes - direction and film editing Clarice Lissovsky - assistant director Antoine de Mena - filming and editing Clara Cosentino - filming Eder Neves - filming Marcos Gouvêa - filming Rafaela Giacomelli - assistant editor Yan Saldanha - sound Wild Team: Bruna Freire de Carvalho, Daniel Grimoni, Isabelle Passos, Mariana Rotili, Veronica Pinheiro Narrator: Ailton Krenak Wild Community - production volunteers: Aline Oliveira, Fernanda Carneiro, Ivy Morais, Júlio Lage, Letícia Viana, Mariana Mendes, Mariana Montenegro, Mariana Zani, Mônica Claro, Nina Rosenblit, Pedro Gebara Bel Lobo - architect Marcello Magdalena - project technician Andrew de Freitas - editing JPG Cleaning: Angela Gomes - food and cleaning Juliana Nabuco (Nii Atelier) and Vera Fróes - herbal bath Raquel Dimantas and Bárbara Tavares Fonseca - dresses, talking necklaces and “Ancestral Memories” flag Juliana Chalita and Marina Rotili - photography Anna Dantes - drawings Luciano Gomes - animation Thanks to: Berlei Transportes, Digo Fiães, FOBS Segurança, Frans Duvoisen, Heloísa Morais Franco, IPHAN, Jeanne Forissier, Julio Bombinha, LF Sound, Marion Loire, Mineirart, Pedro Lago, Pedro Rocha, Rei dos Puffs, Renan Lima, Rodrigo Quintela, Sabrina Ramos and Vera Saboya.
