In the writing, he wanted to refute the deviant understanding that assumes that sins can only be erased by repentance. So he wanted to explain that there are other reasons that can make a person's sins fall apart from repentance. So he mentioned that there are ten reasons for the fall of sins. Ibn Taimiyah (rahimullah) said, قَدْ دَلَّتْ نُصُوصُ الْكِتَابِ وَالسُّنَّةِ: عَلَى أَنَّ ع ُقُوبَةَ الذُّنُوبِ تَزُولُ عَنْ الْعَبْدِ بِنَحْوِ عَشَرَةِ أَسْبَابٍ} مجموع الفتاوى "It has been shown by the Koran and the sunnahs of the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam that the punishment for sins can be lost from a servant for about ten reasons." (Majmu' Fatawa 7/487) Among these causes are: Repentance Istighfar Good deeds Prayers of the Believers for him People who did good deeds for him after he died. Intercession of the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam. Disasters can abort sins. Being crushed in the grave can abort sins. Severe conditions on the Day of Judgment can abort sins.
