Finland's highest military honor is the Mannerheim Cross, which was awarded to 191 soldiers based on their merits in the Continuation War. The Knights of the Mannerheim Cross belong to the Order of the Freedom Cross, whose Grand Master is the Commander-in-Chief of the Defense Forces, i.e. basically the President. The badge of honor treats soldiers similarly regardless of military rank, i.e. the basis is not military rank but merit in war.
