About :

Did you know that scientists are almost ready to bring some long-extinct species back to life? Tyrannosaurus and other dangerous creatures are not on the guest list, so we won’t be seeing them anytime soon. However, some of our favorite Ice Age characters may soon be back! SUMMARY: Most woolly mammoths became extinct around 10,000 years ago, but a population of 500–1,000 survived on Wrangel Island as late as 1650 BC. The woolly mammoth is about the size of an African elephant. The saber-toothed tiger was similar in size to today's big cats. It weighed between 90 and 270 kg and could reach 4 m in length. Saber-toothed tigers had a muscular neck, a short tail, powerful forelimbs, and dagger-like teeth on the upper jaw that could reach almost 30 cm in length! Moas are giant flightless birds that look a bit like ostriches but without wings. There are 10 known members of the moa family. Some were no bigger than a turkey, while others reached 3 m in height, making them the largest birds to have ever lived. Giant sloths are likely to be resurrected because they roamed the Earth as recently as 8,000 years ago. In fact, DNA samples have already been obtained from intact hairs of this animal. The dodo became extinct just 80 years after its discovery. Their only known habitat was the island of Mauritius, where the birds lived peacefully until the Dutch arrived in the 1590s. In addition to the woolly mammoth, there was another furry extinct creature, the woolly rhinoceros, and scientists want to bring it back, too. This animal lived in the Arctic snows as recently as 10,000 years ago. Woolly rhinoceroses are quite famous: they are popular characters in ancient cave paintings, such as the Chauvet Cave in France. The giant deer, or giant deer, was another species that did not survive the Ice Age. These creatures almost died out about 12,000 years ago. However, in Siberia, researchers have found fossilized remains of giant deer that are no more than 7,000-8,000 years old. The Chinese lake dolphin went extinct in 2006, making it the first cetacean species (an order that includes whales, dolphins, and porpoises) to go extinct solely due to human impact. It’s now clear that, because the extinction happened so recently, there’s enough DNA available to ensure that a successful resurrection could be achieved. An Elasmotherium skull found in Kazakhstan has proven that the animal actually died out just 29,000 years ago. Good news for anyone who wants to see a real-life unicorn one day! Bringing Neanderthals back to life would be the easiest task of all. Scientists have already mapped their genome. So the question is no longer whether we can, but whether we should.
