When I woke up from the anesthesia (it was very fast, in about half an hour I was already fine), the doctor came into the room and told us: we took out the 5 that were there. And me, 5? But were all 5 the right size? And she said, okay, for now we've taken out all 5, now go home and we will keep you informed. The next steps in the laboratory are to fertilise the eggs that have been removed with sperm and wait for them to fertilise. Then, the doctor has to make a decision about whether to wait to put them inside the mother's body on the second or third day or wait until day 5. Normally the embryos are transferred on day +2 or +3, but by leaving it a couple of days longer they develop to the blastocyst stage, which is already a complex cell mass that on day five is in perfect condition to implant in the walls of the uterus. So our doctor told us, we're going to try to make sure that if they fertilise, they make it to day five. We'll call you. This was a Tuesday, so I had to wait for the call. On Friday they called me and told me that for now all 5 were still going ahead. I was freaking out! Have all 5 been fertilised? It was mind-blowing. I was really nervous. And they gave us an appointment for Sunday. Keep in mind one very important thing when choosing a fertility clinic. Ask if, in the case that the transfer has to be done on a Sunday, they will do it! Although it may seem surprising, there are clinics that close on Sundays… here is some information that I think is extremely important. Well, on Sunday at 10 in the morning we were there, very, very excited and nervous. When we walked through the door to the counter (I'll tell you this as an anecdote), they told us, you have to pay 1000 euros, do you pay now in cash or by card? What? 1000 euros of what? hahahahaha And he said, do you have embryos to freeze, how??? what??? We weren't considering this option at all!! Seriously??? hahahaha I don't have 1000 euros on me! We went upstairs to the operating room, this time there was no need for anesthesia. They asked my husband if he wanted to go in, he said of course he did. You won’t believe it, but if everything went well, that moment was the exact moment when I was going to get pregnant, it was important for both of us to be there. I still remember that the biologist told us, ALL 5 HAVE BEEN FERTILIZED, AND ALL 5 ARE OF A QUALITY… That option was so improbable that we didn’t believe it. 5 possibilities, my goodness. From none to 5!!! So she told us, 4 are already frozen, we have decided to put only one in because there is a good chance that you will get pregnant since the quality is very good. I chose the one I liked the most, the roundest one… And they put it in me, and we cried with emotion. And now, it was time to wait 15 more days… Girls, you see that at this stage of our life, the word “wait” is going to be used a lot!! And we went home with our little embryo inside me.
