In June 1967, Israel faced a grave threat from the Arab states, leading to a war of major consequences, resulting in the occupation of the Sinai Peninsula, the Golan Heights, the West Bank, and, most significantly, East Jerusalem. It was a historic moment, for for the first time in 2,000 years, Jewish soldiers stood on the holy Mount that housed the Al-Aqsa Mosque—a site revered by both Islam and Judaism, including the remains of Herod’s Temple. To the pious soldiers who won this victory, it was seen as a divine sign. In the months that followed, a messianic movement, aligned with the nationalist right, emerged, fiercely opposing any territorial concessions and actively preparing for the next step: the rebuilding of the Jewish Temple in place of the holy mosques. This documentary traces the rise of Jewish fundamentalism in Israeli politics and the concomitant expansion of settlements in the West Bank. These developments pose major challenges to any prospect of a peace process between Israel and Palestine.
