Zelenogradsk is a resort town located on the shores of the Baltic Sea, at the very beginning of the Curonian Spit. In 1283, a tavern was built here so that the knights who were traveling to Lithuania could rest from the long journey and gain strength. The tavern was called Kranzkrug. It existed until the beginning of the 20th century, giving the fishing village the name Kranz. Professor Ludwig von Backo at the end of the 18th century, in his research, drew attention to the fact that the population of these places are long-livers, and he associated this with the maritime climate and natural environment. Gradually, Kranz turned into the most popular seaside resort of East Prussia. Today it is worth coming here to get acquainted with numerous sights, enjoy the sea views, stroll along the promenade that stretches along the entire city and ends at the beach area with a 150-foot pier, look into numerous museums and taste Zelenograd pretzel with aromatic tea.
