The southernmost province of Armenia is called Syunik. In Azerbaijan, the name Zangezur is used for this region. To the east of this region is Azerbaijan, to the south is Iran, and to the west is the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan. The Zangezur Corridor project is the name of the project that aims to connect Azerbaijan directly to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic through land and rail transportation to be opened from this region. In a broader sense, the project aims to connect Azerbaijan directly to Turkey. Azerbaijan and Armenia approach the project differently.
