I Got This Role "DDT" is a Soviet and Russian team of musicians, the style of which is based on rock. The rock band was founded in 1980 in the city of Ufa. The only permanent member and undisputed leader, the author of the main part of the repertoire is Yuri Shevchuk. The idea for the name of the group came from a well-known chemical substance for fighting insects - Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane. In 1979, Shevchuk was invited to play in a little-known group that rehearsed at the Avangard Community Center. The musicians performed cover versions of songs by famous groups: the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, and others. The newly formed group included five musicians: Yuri Shevchuk, Gennady Rodin (bass guitarist), Rinat Shamsutdinov (drummer), Rustem Asanbaev (guitarist), and Vladimir Sigachev (keyboardist). By that time, the guys did not have a name yet, and they were forced to bear the name "ensemble under the direction of Gennady Rodin." In 1980, their first tape album was released, which contained seven compositions. Unfortunately, due to the lack of sufficient skill and normal recording quality, the tape was not particularly successful. The album was called "DDT-1". In 1982, the guys saw an ad in the Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper about the Golden Tuning Fork competition, where all young performers would compete to write the best patriotic compositions of the USSR. The prize for winning the competition was to record their debut single at the Melodiya studio. DDT sent several songs to the competition, thanks to which, to the surprise of the musicians, the group made it to the second round. At that moment, there was a need to somehow name the group. Sigachev suggested DDT, everyone liked the name, and it was approved. Three compositions from the first album were chosen for the competition: Black Sun, Alien, and Don't Shoot. The songs took the honorable first place, and Yuri Shevchuk was invited to record the song Don't Shoot at the Melodiya studio. The group was offered a contract, but Shevchuk refused them. The main condition was to perform ready-made songs written by official composers and poets of the USSR. Refusal of the conditions meant the return of the group to the very beginning – underground and work for small circles of experts and connoisseurs of rock music. The difficult choice did not break the group, and the guys continued to work on the material. In 1982, the second album "Svinya na Radugde" was released. In this tape album, one can clearly feel the gravitation towards hard rock, although the group could not yet finally decide on the genre. The guys were still on the path of experiments, adding elements of various other genres to the album: country, rock and roll or blues. The group made a significant breakthrough in 1983, when Shevchuk and Sigachev met the guys from "Rock-Sentyabr". "DDT" and three more musicians from "Rock-Sentyabr" recorded a magnificent album "Compromise (Monologue in Saigon)" (Cherepovets). Unlike the first works, the album caused a great resonance, bringing "DDT" unexpected fame in wide circles. After the recording was completed, Shevchuk and Sigachev returned to Ufa. In 1983, another member, Sergei Rudoy, joined the group, taking on the duties of the drummer. In April of the following year, the next album "Periphery" was released underground. It was after the release of this album that the DDT group began to have its first serious problems with the authorities, after which the group ceased to exist for some time. Yuri Shevchuk went to Sverdlovsk, where he played with the group "Urfin Juice" for some time. Responsibility for the revival of the group fell on Shevchuk and the returning Sigachev. Having gathered their strength, the guys began to work on new material. Gennady Rodin (bass guitarist) left the group. Not taking into account all the failures, Yuri continued to work: he composed music, wrote lyrics for new songs. The year 1985 was ending, the band had completely finished material for recording the next album, but it was impossible to do it in Ufa. And then Shevchuk negotiated with one of the Moscow studios. Before leaving for the capital, the rock band rehearsed the album with the new b
