We had the opportunity to assemble a small semi-automatic capacitor bank, and of course, we couldn't help but share it with you, so we recorded the entire step by step to teach you all the details of such an assembly, so pay close attention to get as many tips and tricks as possible on assembling a capacitor bank. #embaixadordecomandosengehall ...................................................................... Power Factor Correction – what is it and why is it important? You may not know, but some problems in your installation may occur due to not having performed a power factor correction. Overloads, voltage drops and losses are some examples. Calculating the power factor and correcting it are two fundamental steps in energy management and efficiency. Maintaining the power factor, as close to 1 as possible, is regulated by Brazilian legislation through decrees. These decrees determine the manner of assessment and the method of billing for energy that exceeds the new limits. But what is power factor correction? First, we need to understand what a power factor is. Also known as PF, the power factor is a number between 0 and 1 and measures the efficiency of electrical energy consumption of a circuit or equipment. The standard power factor is 1, that is, the lower this number is, the lower the efficiency of the circuit or equipment and the closer to 1 it is, the greater the efficiency of the circuit and consequently, the better performance. Power factor correction aims to make the electrical grid much more efficient by installing capacitor banks. The purpose of the banks is to “cancel” the voltage and load current curves. Why is the power factor low? There are many possible causes for a low power factor (remember that the ideal is to be as close to 1 as possible), such as: motors operating without load, induction furnaces, oversized motors, reactors with low power factors, transformers operating with a load below the established maximum, and others. The most important thing is that the professionals responsible pay attention to this measurement to avoid future problems. But why is it so important to correct the power factor of an installation? In addition to maintenance being required by law, power factor correction is important to avoid some problems such as: voltage drops, underutilization of capacity, losses in the installation, overloads, and extra charges. Knowing that a CAPACITIVE load advances the current and an INDUCTIVE load advances the voltage, we try to combine the two to obtain the best possible power factor, or as close to 1 as possible, by interconnecting capacitors (or banks of several capacitors for larger loads) simultaneously with our inductive loads. The necessary capacitance is a consequence of how much this current is out of phase, and needs to be calculated by a specialist. So if you have an industry or company that uses a lot of heavy motors, even elevators, you need to pay attention to the correction of the power factor. On your monthly electricity bill, you may be charged excess amounts due to reactive power. If this is happening, we recommend installing a capacitor bank in order to correct this power factor and consequently avoid extra charges. Source: https://www.ampher.com.br/
