The Middle Paleolithic in Eurasia is mainly characterized by the Mousterian industry typical of the Neanderthals. Contrary to what many people think, the Neanderthals had developed brain capacities, symbolic capacity, and language. There are researchers who agree that the development of certain activities is a sign of language development, such as the long-term management of resources, the construction of rafts or boats, intentional burials with a symbolic and ritual purpose, the making of paintings, etc. In addition, Neanderthal paintings have been found in two caves in Spain, in the caves of Maltravieso and La Pasiega, as well as shells with traces of pigments in the cave of Los Aviones. Homo sapiens arrived in Europe 40,000 years ago and lived with the Neanderthals for 10,000 years, until the latter disappeared 30,000 years ago. Contrary to popular belief, there were not only conflicts between Sapiens and Neanderthals, but there was also mixing between them, which is why there are traces of Neanderthal DNA in our genetics.
