The sea is an immense expanse of salt water. When a sea is very large, it is called an ocean. At the sea we can find many NATURAL ELEMENTS: there is the coast, which is the point where the sea and the land meet. Coasts can be high, low, rocky and sandy. When a coast is low and sandy, we find the beach, which is precisely a stretch of low coast covered with sand ⛱. When a coast is rocky, however, in its vicinity it is possible to find rocks, which are portions of rock that emerge from the sea. When a coast is rocky you can also find promontories ⛰, which are rocky protrusions of the mainland that overlook the sea. Sometimes the coast, whether rocky or sandy, can have inlets. When an inlet is small, it is called a bay, while when it is larger it is called a gulf. When the sea intrudes into the coast for several kilometers, flooding an ancient glacial valley, we instead have a fjord: fjords are found in the Nordic countries and especially in Norway. On the sandy coasts of the Mediterranean Sea, you can also find pine forests, which are forests of maritime pines 🌳🌳🌳. At the sea we can find an island 🏝, that is, a portion of land entirely surrounded by the sea. When several islands are close to each other, we have an archipelago, that is, a group of islands. Different from the island is the peninsula, which is surrounded by the sea on only three sides: Italy, for example, is a peninsula because it is surrounded by the sea on only three sides. Sicily and Sardinia, on the other hand, are islands, because they are entirely surrounded by the sea. Finally, there is a part of the sea that we can only see by diving and wearing a scuba mask: these are the seabeds, which are a succession of plains and reliefs, inhabited by various marine creatures 🐡🐠🐟. The depths of the sea are very variable: this means that there are deeper and shallower seabeds. THE MOVEMENTS OF THE SEA 🌊🌊🌊🌘 When the sea is rough, there are waves, which are ripples on the surface of the sea due to the action of the wind. In some parts of the world, more easily in the open seas or oceans, very high and extremely energetic sea waves can form: these are tsunamis, caused by earthquakes that occur in the depths of the sea and which have enormous destructive power. But the sea also moves because of the tides, a phenomenon whereby the sea level rises and falls due to the gravitational pull of the Moon and the Sun on the Earth's water masses. In France there is an island called Mont Saint Michel, famous for its incredible tides: when there is low tide, tourists can easily reach it on foot, but when the tide rises, the islet becomes almost unreachable, because it is completely surrounded by the sea. At sea, man carries out various work activities, the main ones being fishing, navigation and tourism. To carry out these activities, man has built various architectural works, which we can define as anthropic or artificial elements of the marine environment. Among these, there are ports, structures that allow the landing and mooring of ships and boats. Ports, in turn, are made up of various architectural elements including piers, constructions that extend from the mainland towards the sea and whose main function is to dock ships and allow them to get on and off or load and unload. In ports we also find the lighthouse, a light signaling system located in a highly visible position on the coast in order to facilitate night navigation. At sea, man also builds roads, bridges and artificial canals. In some seaside locations there are fishing huts 🎣, which in the past were used by fishermen as a temporary refuge to complete the first stages of processing what had been caught or to find shelter during the night or bad weather. Since the sea has always been one of the most popular tourist destinations, man has also built beach resorts and hotel facilities such as campsites ⛺, hotels 🏨, tourist villages and restaurants 🍜, to welcome tourists and make them spend unforgettable holidays. Look at this campsite located a stone's throw from the sea and inside a pine forest: in this case, man has managed to satisfy his needs while fully respecting nature. The result is an enchanting oasis of peace and relaxation. 🎂🍰 Follow us on Facebook! / pasticciotti.it and on Instagram: i_pasticciotti_it Music: https://www.bensound.com
