Caroline Cristina Galhardo, 34, recounts the moments of despair she experienced at the hands of her ex-boyfriend Alef de Souza Braga, 29. The journalist was stabbed 20 times after her apartment was broken into by the young man, who could not accept the end of the relationship. Alef was arrested on the night of the crime, April 3, 2024, in the northern part of São Paulo. The defendant remains in the Guarulhos II Provisional Detention Center and awaits trial for attempted murder. The jury is expected to be heard later this year. “I was in such a state of shock that at that moment I was just trying to reduce the stab wounds. I pretended I had died,” says Caroline. “All I wanted was to try to survive at least a little. To get out of there and talk to my brother and nephews one last time in my life.”
