Do you know what everyday life is like for Orthodox Jews? In the new episode of “followme.reports”, Aminata accompanies the Jewish Orthodox Elyahu for a day, visits a synagogue with him and meets his family. In the process, she learns a lot about the strict religious rules and customs that determine the life of the 28-year-old student - and, as always, she has your questions with her. Is Elyahu afraid of anti-Semitism in Germany? How often does he travel to Israel with his family? What is his attitude to the political conflict in the Middle East? And how much space does his faith take up in his everyday life? Elyahu belongs to the Chabad community, a Jewish Orthodox group that lives its life strictly according to the laws of the Torah and is one of the largest Jewish religious communities in the world. For Elyahu, the day begins with morning prayers. In the synagogue, he shows Aminata how he prepares for prayer. In addition to the phylacteries, he also wears the traditional prayer shawl. But Aminata does not get to see the holy scripture of Judaism, the Torah - it is only taken out of the shrine once a week, on the Sabbath. Elyahu invites Aminata to dinner. First they go to the supermarket. Orthodox Jews also follow the laws of their religion when shopping. Not all food complies with Jewish dietary laws and is therefore "kosher". What about different types of meat, for example? And why does it make a difference whether vegetables were grown in Israel or in Germany? When they arrive at the apartment, Aminata also meets Elyahu's wife Hannah and their children. They want to prepare dinner together. When they enter the kitchen, Aminata notices: There are two stoves and two sinks! Another rule states that dairy and meat dishes should not be prepared together. _______________ Help for victims of anti-Semitism: Weisser Ring victim support association: https://weisser-ring.de/ The Weisser Ring victim hotline is available 24 hours a day on the following number: 116 006 The Jewish Forum for Democracy and Against Anti-Semitism (JFDA) offers free counseling for people who have been victims of anti-Semitic discrimination or violence.
