About :

People who live in #poverty are often met with incomprehension. In Germany, many young people also live on the breadline; contrary to many clichés, they usually end up in poverty through no fault of their own. The reasons for this can vary. Mental illness or relationship breakdowns are often present in the life stories of those affected. This is also the case with Sarah. Y-Kollektiv reporter Johanne Bischoff meets the 33-year-old student in Saarbrücken. Actually, everything was looking good for Sarah. She had a plan for life, a well-paid job and a steady relationship. But then mental problems arose, she could no longer work in her job as a kindergarten teacher, and her relationship fell apart. In order not to risk a gap in her CV, Sarah decided to study. She now has 550 euros a month at her disposal - for everything. There is no room for emergencies, she can't afford for anything to break. Lukas is also tight. It's the beginning of the month and the money from the authorities has arrived. Lukas is on welfare. His dream was to become a driver, but because he has a very rare disease that's not possible. Despite this, he wants a secure future and is retraining for an IT job in the healthcare sector. Johanne accompanies him shopping and they want to cook together in Lukas' one-room apartment. What can you still do with so little money? And what does it do to young people when they don't actually have enough money to live on? ---------- Author: Johanne Bischoff Twitter account: @j_hanne Editing: Oliver Rusanov Camera: André Stahl, Ruben Silver Krebs CvD: Dennis Leiffels Editorial collaboration: Jasmin Weiner, Ramona Rücker ---------- Music used: Son Lux Easy // Sofie Tucker – Drinkie // Alli Neumann Hohes Fieber // FOALS Birch Tree // Son Lux Plans we made // Die Alpen Maeckes ---------- ► Further information and sources: Federal Association of Catholic Youth Social Work (BAG KJS) eV: Monitor Youth Poverty in Germany 2020: https://www.bagkjs.de/wp-content/uplo...
