Overall, a very atypical hike, but one that really has its charms due to the extremes. The 115 km long Wupperweg begins in Börlinghausen at the source of the Wupper and leads from there past the Brucher Dam to northern Marienheide. Along the still young Wupper, the path leads past the Lingese Dam to Wipperfürth and from there to the Neye Dam. Immediately after that, the Bevertal Dam and Hückeswagen with the Wuppertal Dam are passed. Heading north, the route now crosses Wilhelmstal and Dahlerau, before walking down the slope of southern Wuppertal. Behind the Burgholz state forest, the Müngsten Bridge and Burg Castle follow. The path continues to Leichlingen (Rhineland), and after crossing Leverkusen-Opladen, ends on the outskirts of Rheindorf at the mouth of the Wupper into the Rhine.
