The cross is completely set with Mazarin-cut diamonds of around 40 carats, with the larger diamonds having a Peruzzi cut, which was invented shortly before 1700. Both the band and the seal are almost intact. The seal coat of arms with heraldic symbols shows a lily as a saint's attribute and below it a fish, which represents early Christianity. The two keys that can be seen underneath represent the keys of Peter, an attribute of the apostle Peter and a symbol of the binding power of the Pope as the successor of Peter and representative of Jesus Christ on earth. The papal seal refers to the Congregation for Indulgences and the holy relics of Pope Clement IX (1600-1669), which represent a guarantee of the authenticity of the pieces of wood from the cross of Jesus Christ.
