#NationalMuseumofKorea #NMK #Treasure #K_Kreasure World Art Gallery Central Asia Gallery: The Silk Road Connecting East and West Central Asia has played a significant role as a trade route for people and artifacts between the East and the West since ancient times. The most well-known of these is the Silk Road. The Silk Road, which stretches from Gyeongju to Rome, centered around Central Asia, was a whopping 12,000 km long. And for approximately 3,000 years from the 15th century BC to the 16th century AD during the Age of Exploration, the Silk Road was a place where many historical events took place, connecting the East and the West of the world. The story of the Silk Road, which contains such important meaning, is in the Central Asia Gallery of the National Museum of Korea. In other words, this exhibition room can be said to be a place that exhibits artifacts and history of the Silk Road. Let's meet the story of the Central Asia Gallery through a video. #world_art_gallery #Central_Asia_gallery #the_silk_road #Afrasiab_Painting #Bezeklik_Caves [World Art Gallery Central Asia Gallery] Central Asia, located at the center of the Asian continent, generally refers to China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan. We call this region 'Turkestan (land of the Turks)' or 'the Western Regions.' Most of the Central Asian collections in the National Museum of Korea were discovered in the present-day Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. This region began full-scale exchanges between India, West Asia, and China around the 2nd century BC via the South and North Western Roads that run through the southern and northern parts of the Taklamakan Desert, and many oasis cities were established and prospered as centers of commerce and religion. The Central Asian Room presents representative grotto temple murals and sculptures from the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, Lop Nor and Loulan collections from the South Western Road, and artifacts excavated from the Astana tomb in the North Western Road. This exhibition will provide an opportunity to understand the characteristics of the international and complex Central Asian culture and art, and to examine traces of East-West exchanges along the Silk Road. In this highly arid region known for its deserts, highlands, and grasslands, organic materials such as paper, wood, and fabrics could be preserved in good condition for more than a thousand years. Around the late nineteen and early nineteen centuries, imperialist explorers scoured this area for ancient treasures. Among them was an expedition team from Japan, known as the Otani Mission. Exploring various historical sites, they collected a large amount of cultural properties and part of them is now housed in the National Museum of Korea. The gallery is divided into three sections. The first displays religious paintings and sculptures, the second presents items excavated from tombs and settlements, and the third introduces items found at the Astana Tombs in the Turpan region. #Go to museum website ☞ https://www.museum.go.kr/site/main/home
