On October 30 and November 6, the Quilombo do Camburi hosted the Experience of Transmission of Knowledge and Artisanal Practices, led by Master Max (Maximiano Fermino Soares). A master canoeist, Max makes large and small canoes using the carving technique. These canoes, which are typical of the region, are carved from a single trunk and are still widely used in the region. In the past, before the construction of highways, canoes were essential for moving communities, transporting goods, and for artisanal fishing. Today, canoes continue to be used for these purposes, in addition to other activities such as canoe races and recreational sports. Master Max produces a series of handicrafts using this technique, using simple tools and a refined technique for their production. During the two-day workshop, it was possible to share some of this knowledge. The experiences of transmitting knowledge and artisanal skills are part of the Raízes que Tecem Project, which is part of the National Network of Free Schools of Art and Culture - Olhos d'água Program, promoted by the Ministry of Culture.
