In this YouTube video we talk about a topic that concerns many couples, especially in their 30s: the balancing act between relationship and projects. The so-called "hot phase" often brings with it numerous challenges at the same time - building a house, children, job, further training, marriage. We often imitate the behavior of our parents, who also worked intensively on projects and showed us that this life model was consistent. Especially for entrepreneurs and the self-employed, work often becomes a never-ending task that takes up a lot of time and energy. It is not uncommon for the relationship to suffer as a result, as projects are given priority in phases or permanently. From our years of experience as couples therapists, we know that relationships become more and more functional in such phases in order to get all of these projects off the ground. At the beginning, many couples consciously decide to tackle a project together, but over time the dynamic changes: the "we feeling" is lost, communication only revolves around the tasks that need to be accomplished, and shared moments in life or free time as a couple are increasingly lacking. The danger is that the relationship becomes more and more like a partnership of convenience, without the feeling of being a couple in love. Couples often resort to solutions that provide short-term relief but do not solve the core problem. A typical reaction is to divide the tasks even more clearly between the two partners in the hope that this will create more harmony. Unfortunately, there is often a lack of real prioritization and consideration of which tasks are actually appropriate - the result is often chaos and constant overwhelm. With good intentions of getting through the stressful phase as quickly as possible, many decide to "just hold on". However, this increases exhaustion and does not bring the partners mutual relaxation, but rather distance and dissatisfaction. If too many projects are tackled without a coherent approach and without real prioritization, the consequences can be significant: the distance between both partners grows, the relationship becomes strange, and communicating on a deeper level becomes increasingly difficult. Added to this are stress and frustration, which can also spill over into other areas of life. Some couples later regret that the projects took priority too often and wish they could return to their former harmony - some couples even harbor thoughts of separation, which, however, remain unspoken due to the stressful circumstances. In the last part of the video, we discuss how you can protect yourself and your relationship from suffering from too many projects. This includes recognizing and working through stress early on. We will introduce you to methods of how you can process the injuries that have arisen and create space for your relationship again.
