See what great love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God – and that is what we are. This is why the world does not know us, because it did not know God. Beloved, we are children of God from now on, but it has not yet been revealed what we will be. We know that when he appears, we will be like him, for we will see him as he is. And everyone who has such hope in him purifies himself, just as he is pure. Whoever commits sin transgresses the law; for sin is transgression. Now you know that he, Jesus, was manifested to take away sins, and in him is no sin. Whoever abides in him does not sin; whoever sins has not seen him or known him. – Word of the Lord. Psalm (97 (98), 1, 3cd-4, 5-6) R/ The whole earth has seen the salvation of our God. And I did not know him; but the reason I came baptizing with water is that he might be made manifest to Israel.” Then John testified, “I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove and remaining on him. And I did not know him, but he who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘He on whom you see the Spirit descending and remaining on him, he baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’ I saw and testify that this is the Son of God.” – Let us acclaim the Word of God.
