Władysław Murzyn is one of the oldest artists from Zalesie in Kurpie Zielone. He has been involved in basketry since he was a child, and this skill was passed on to him by his mother. He obtains pine roots for his unique works in a nearby forest. He digs up the tree with a spade and when he finds the right hardening, he knows that this is where he will extract the right material from under the ground. After obtaining the roots, they should be debarked and twisted into discs. They can lie in such coils for 5 years or longer, as long as they are soaked before weaving the baskets. Mr. Władysław can be met at various regional folklore events - fairs, workshops, shows. Despite his age, he is still active and willing to share his knowledge.
