In 2022, the state of Schleswig-Holstein, or rather NAH.SH, ordered a scheduled local service between Kappeln and Eckernförde from the Angeln Steam Railway. Despite an extremely short lead time of less than two weeks, we were able to organize and carry out the service with a small group. As a train driver, I was the only staff member this year and thus drove all nine Saturdays. I had a colleague with me for instruction, but he still needs further training, because the service between Süderbrarup is based on the branch line operating regulations (FV-NE). Today, only a few colleagues have this qualification. All in all, the service ran very smoothly. There were no delays or vehicle breakdowns caused by us. The two railcars ran every day without any problems. In total, over 2000 kilometers were driven and well over 3000 passengers were transported on the 29 rounds. I would like to take you on one of these trips here. A note on our own behalf: By agreement, it was possible to omit guards at many level crossings during the journeys. The reason: the rail bus offers a very good overview and with many level crossings it would be more dangerous for an employee on the road than to drive across the level crossing at walking speed while observing the traffic.
