I bought an Oru folding boat with the aim of going down the Rhine. I started in the Rhine Gorge near Versam (Graubünden, Switzerland). I paddled on the Alpine Rhine through the Rhine Valley to Rheineck. From there I crossed the old Rhine to the Rheinspitz near Altenrhein and into Lake Constance. I took the train from Arbon to Konstanz, as Lake Constance is not the Rhine, but a lake. From Konstanz at Rhine kilometer 0 I continued by kayak on the Upper Rhine to the island of Reichenau, past Stein am Rhein, the Rhine Falls, around the island of Rheinau to Rheinfelden and then to Basel. From there I continued on the Upper Rhine to Rhinau (France) with the aim of going to Strasbourg. As the weather forecast only predicted rain and I didn't want to go home yet, I decided to pack up the canoe and take the train to Mainz. From there I paddled on the Middle Rhine through the Rhine Valley to Koblenz.
