The IRE 3 line runs between the stations Basel Bad Bf - Friedrichshafen - Ulm. Here we travelled with the VT 612 combustion multiple unit from Basel to Friedrichshafen city with the following stops: Rheinfelden Bad Säckingen Waldshut Tiengen Erzingen Schaffhausen(CH) Singen am Htw Radolfzell Überlingen Salem Friedrichshafen city. The route (Basel - Radolfzell - Konstanz) was finally opened on June 15th, 1863 and inaugurated with a special train pulled by the steam locomotive "Küssaburg". The further route (Radolfzell - Friedrichshafen city) was only opened in the years 1895 - 1901. This made it possible to connect Basel - Ulm from 1901. Today, the IRE 3 line is operated by class 612, 218 & 245 locomotives with Ba 764 control cars.
