But then he gets into the cockpit of a friend's plane. "That's when it happened," says the Cologne native. Flying becomes his new passion. He becomes a pilot. The 46-year-old flies the world's largest passenger aircraft for ten years. Then the pandemic came. The dream of flying the giant is over. His employer ceases operations with the A380. A new era begins for Markus Hoffmann in Frankfurt and London. He is being retrained on the latest Boeing, the 787-9. He is one of the first pilots on the new Dreamliner fleet. For a year, "mittendrin" accompanied Markus Hoffmann during his training, test flights and the first flight to New York, the airline's first destination airport with its new flagship.
