Veternik is a district on the outskirts of Novi Sad (Serbia). Veternik was founded in 1923 as a settlement for disabled veterans of World War I. After the end of the war, King Alexander gave his volunteers, who were permanently blinded by nerve gas during the great battle against the Bulgarian troops, the opportunity to settle in the vicinity of Novi Sad and in the area of today's Veternik. At that time, Veternik had only two streets, but today it is a rather large village with its own kindergarten, schools, clinic, pharmacies and shops. According to the 2011 census, more than 17 thousand people lived here, and today there are probably even more.
