Wilhelm Busch was born in 1897 in Elberfeld as the son of Pastor Dr. Wilhelm Busch. His mother, Johanna Busch, née Kullen, came from the Kullen family from Hülben (near Urach, now near Bad Urach), which was influenced by Swabian Pietism. # After graduating from high school, Wilhelm Busch served as a young lieutenant in the First World War. There he came to believe in Jesus Christ. After studying theology in Tübingen, he worked as a pastor in Bielefeld and later in the mining districts of the Ruhr. There he was youth pastor from 1929 to 1962 in the Weigle House in Essen, which had been set up in 1912 by his predecessor, Pastor Wilhelm Weigle. During the Nazi era, his faith and the struggle of the Confessing Church landed him in prison several times. After the Second World War, he worked as a traveling evangelist, among other things. Wilhelm Busch retired in 1962, but continued to travel to spread the message of Jesus Christ. On the way back from a week of evangelism in Sasnitz on Rügen, he was taken to a hospital in Lübeck, where he died. He was buried on June 24, 1966 in the Ostfriedhof cemetery in Essen, with great sympathy from the population (including the later Federal President Gustav Heinemann).
