With theologian Wim van Vlastuin. They could not go along with the new Protestant Church (PKN) on principle, and so that led to a church schism in 2004. It ripped through villages, churches and families. Wim van Vlastuin, at that time a young minister in the Dutch Reformed Church, decided early on that he would not go along. Even though it would cost him everything. 'I told my children: I might have to become a bicycle repairman.' That turned out differently: today he is rector of the Reformed Seminary and professor at the VU. Much has also happened in the Reformed Church in twenty years: it has become a mature church community, and a refuge for churchgoers from the Reformed Churches who want things to be a little less 'heavy'. What challenges do the Reformed Churches face? Leaving the church does not seem to affect them much, or is that an illusion? And what about the relationships with other churches? The door is open to everyone, says Wim. But if the concerned Christian Reformed were to knock en masse on the door of the Restored Reformed Church, he would find that a shame. #church #refo #christians #bible #hGod #bible
