Meet the updated Mercedes GLS SUV - the daddy of all SUVs! Mercedes has updated its largest mid-life SUV and Matt gets his hands on the behemoth to find out what's changed and whether it can compete with the likes of the BMW X7 and Range Rover! Let's start with the exterior... Yeah, not much has changed! At the rear you'll find one of the laziest exhaust approaches in the business, along with updated headlights and a new bumper. The only changes are at the side are the new alloy designs, and from the outside the most noticeable difference is the huge grille, which is definitely an improvement over the old model! When you see the cabin, your first thought will be - is this really a new car? However, the seats are still soft and comfortable - which is definitely a plus. There's a huge digital dial screen in the centre of the dashboard (with plenty of customisation options) and a large infotainment screen. There's plenty of storage space and the seats are very comfortable. What’s more, apart from a few small areas, virtually everything is covered in soft-touch materials. There are four engines to choose from in the new GLS. The entry-level model comes with a 3.0-litre straight-six turbocharged petrol or diesel engine, producing 380bhp and 370bhp respectively. The top-spec AMG GLS 63 gets a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 producing 612bhp. All cars come with a nine-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. Sounds pretty impressive, but there’s one problem: the starting price is around £108,000! So is it worth it?! Find out with Matt. Let’s get going!
