Despite their common past as part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and then the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, the common path of Belarusians and Lithuanians ended in 1795 with the third partition of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. After that, the development of the two nations went in different directions, and today Belarusians and Lithuanians have little interest in each other's history.
