Marcus Vitruvius Pollio was an ancient Roman architect who was born around 70 or 80 BC and died in 15 BC. Why is an architect who lived more than 2000 years ago still influential in our time? When Vitruvius is mentioned in architectural training, he is generally considered to be something very old, outdated and that the contemporary world requires a different kind of concept. Studying Vitruvius is only for history specialists and apparently has no application in current architecture. Is this really the case or should we perhaps look at Vitruvius in a different way?
