Tuc Dup is a rocky hill over 200m high located in the West near the foot of Co To Mountain. Although the hill is small, it has a unique structure because inside the hill is a system of interconnected caves created by large and small rocks stacked together. In the 1960s, this place used to be the base of the An Giang Provincial Party Committee and Tri Ton District. Determined to eliminate the revolutionary base, at the end of 1968, the US and the Republic of Vietnam armies organized a formidable force to attack. However, relying on the dangerous terrain of the natural caves, the revolutionary soldiers fought back very effectively and brought the battle into a stalemate that lasted for more than 4 months. In the end, although they captured the base, the US-Republic of Vietnam coalition suffered heavy losses in human lives along with a huge amount of weapons falling on Tuc Dup Hill (estimated to be worth 2 million dollars).
