'Inside Gyeongin', with 17 million Gyeonggi Incheon residents, will look into the current status and challenges of Goyang Special City, a large city in northern Gyeonggi Province that is running toward a population of 1.1 million, with Mayor Lee Dong-hwan of Goyang Special City, which appears to be affluent at first glance as a new city, but is actually facing many difficulties. Goyang City currently has a population of 1.08 million, and although it wants to grow beyond Seoul's bed town into a competitive city with plenty of jobs, it is suffering due to strong regulations. Since the entire city of Goyang is designated as an overcrowded control area under the Capital Region Development Plan Act, it is impossible to designate an industrial area. As a result, Goyang City does not have a single industrial complex. Since there are no industrial complexes and there are many restrictions due to overcrowded control area regulations, companies are leaving for the southern part of Gyeonggi Province and are not able to fully utilize Goyang City's locational advantages. In order to avoid overcrowded control area regulations and attract companies, Goyang City is promoting a free economic zone... Following its designation as a candidate site for 2022, a vision declaration ceremony was held early last year, and a resident briefing session on the overall free economic zone was held last month.
