About :

Polish SUV, military and civilian truck, manufactured by Fabryka "Star" in Starachowice. This is Star 266, hence the name. Truck with a square cabin, The enterprise of the Polish People's Republic began its production in 1948. And I will tell you it developed very dynamically. The very first copies of this car were built in 1969. Serial production was carried out in 1973-2000. It was used both for military needs and in the national economy. A significant part of the cars were produced for the Polish army. Not only the workers of the car factory worked on the creation of the truck, but also the Polish military, they needed a super passing car. This car was one of the best and most reliable trucks. Despite some prohibitions, the Soviet Union was very happy to buy equipment from friendly neighboring countries. Poland was an ally in the socialist bloc. And the Polish STAR 266 was exactly that reliable truck that the Soviet Union bought. It was a four-wheel drive truck on three axles. The truck had a welded frame, a balance beam rear suspension on two inverted, semi-elliptical springs that stabilized the axles, and six jet rods. Our Gorky Automobile Plant could have entered the line with the cabover STAR truck, with its GAZ 66 truck, a cabover. But alas, it lost to the Polish Star in many ways. Firstly, it had less load capacity. Secondly, it had only two axles. It also did not have a normal sleeper. Therefore, it was decided to import cars from friendly countries, namely the Star-266 truck from Poland.
