Why doesn't the start-stop work? Perhaps the best way to answer this question is by understanding how the Start-Stop works. In this video we explain how the start-stop works using an Audi A3 1.4 as an example, but it could be any VW or Audi vehicle because the principles are very similar. Every vehicle in the modern VAG line uses advanced battery technologies and so when you notice that the start-stop doesn't work you need to do a complete diagnosis because often it's not just the battery. And please, mechanic friend, don't replace an AGM battery with an EFB battery. The charge management systems of modern vehicles are increasingly complex to meet the increasingly demanding emission standards. The start-stop is no exception to this; there are a series of components that impact the start-stop operation or are impacted by the start-stop not working.
